In Algebra, we are learning how to solve a system of equations using three different methods: graphing, substitution, and elimination. For the graphing method, you use the equation y=mx+b to graph the lines on a coordinate plane and get the ordered pair of the place where the lines intersect. The substitution method is the method where you have two equations and you have to substitute, or plug in, a value or expression for either x or y in another equation. Then, you solve for a variable. Once you solve for the variable, you plug it into the other equation to get the other variable. The elimination method is so named because you have to eliminate one of the variables by getting two of the coefficients to become opposites by finding the LCM and multiplying both equations by some number that will get you the number you want for the coefficient.
